i think coda must have been part of the set listing for these shows as they played them on all the dates we saw - aside from the supersonic
awesome songs very beautifully played - the driver still rules for me!

anyone else get annoyed to fuck at the amount of goddamned photographers for every single set? Some were holding up their massive cameras stretched out above their heads, talk about being unobtrusive. It was funny watching them flick through the photos they'd just taken and deleting the crap ones, death to digital!

I had an extended rant about photographers at gigs in a few other threads and got a mixed reception - good to hear someone is as pissed off as I am with the whole pathetic charade...

Yes! :x

I think people should start complaining to venues etc. I pay and travel to see an actual live performance - I do not expect to have to view the performance via some fuckwits camera/phone etc.

A couple of years ago I saw Diamanda Galas perform at the Southbank Centre and I ended up sitting behind a row of photographers. It was really obstrusive especially as it was a very moving and harrowing performance about genocide. I was so pissed off by the whole thing that I wrote a letter of complaint to Southbank and got free tickets to see whatever I wanted in their years programme.

And it was nice to meet up with you yet again 666pack

I got given a photographer's sticker with my free pass, but there was no way in hell I'd go and embarass myself in the photographer's pit. Was tempted to use it to be able to get a touch of Eugene's manboobs, though. Although I'm sure as hell I'd have regretted it.

I'd have talked to more folks from here, but I'm terrible at faces and names, obviously 666pack stuck in my mind and there was only one person there that looked anything like him. I've no problem being seen as some kind of message board nerd... I have two computer science (with music) related degrees after all!

I was there as a photographer, as well as a fan, and I'm sorry that some people find photography to be such a problem. I personally try very hard to minimise the disruption to other members of the audience - predominantly by not using flash and trying to stay down and out of the way when I'm not taking photos and not standing right up in the way even when I am, at least not for more than the few moments it takes to get a shot or two.

In defense of photographers, I have to point out that many people do like to see photographs of gigs and live music. Magazines would be a lot more boring without any live shots to accompany the reviews and it would be a real shame to not have any more gig photos in album sleeves or on websites or wherever. A lot of people are very appreciative of many of the photos that get posted here on the forums for example, both those who couldn't make it to whatever gig it was and want to see what it was like, and those who did who want to see it again.

I love music, but I also enjoy taking photos, and I don't find that one precludes the other. I can enjoy a band's set while still taking photos of them; many times, trying to capture a great photo of a band who are putting on a good show actually adds to the fun, and the end result, when you're successful, is really satisfying. I'm very sorry if it can get in the way for other people, but since live music photography is something I enjoy so much and not only that, but is also a job for me, I can't say that I'll stop doing it, and I have to try to at least partially defend the photographers' role in this discussion.

You're right of course - who'd buy a magazine to look at a load of photos of the backs of people's heads? The whole problem really is that one the day it detracts from the atmosphere - there's this divide between audience and the performer and it has all sorts of media folks running around in it. Goes with the territory, I suppose - at least until someone invents invisible photographers.

The problem is everybody's a photographer these day. We got the professionals, we got the bloggers, we got the kids with camera phones... At the end the whole first front rows are taken by photographing people. Sometimes it's just too much.
