Some of you may know the title "Rurouni Kenshin" as "Samurai X", where a local television channel in the country had a chance to show a cartoon with the theme of the samurai in the Edo era. After a few years, the series "Rurouni Kenshin" which debuted from the comic has now aired as a live-action version for the big screen. His first film with the same title was broadcast in 2012, and now one of the cinema brands in Indonesia is also showing a sequel film from "Rurouni Kenshin" with the title "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen" or translated as "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" in the English version.
"Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" is one of two separate films that are still connected, where the first is the one that has aired in the country since September 10, 2014 yesterday, while the second film is entitled "Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo. -hen ”is planned to air in October in Indonesia. What kind of story is presented in "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno"?
Threats Begin to Haunt Kyoto
After the events that occurred in the first film, Kenshin Himura now lives quietly in the Kamiya family residence which is also a dojo. But his calmness was disturbed when he was asked for help by the new Japanese government to help them in fighting Shishio Makoto, a former assassin during the war who had the ambition to overthrow the Japanese government.
When Kenshin was thinking about the request for help, an event occurred and made Kenshin the "Hitokiri Battosai" heart to go to Kyoto where Shishio was at the same time to stop him. Even so, defeating Shishio is not easy, considering that he has a group of swordsmen nicknamed "Juppongatana" along with other big ambitions that are not just to overthrow the government alone. Can Kenshin carry out this tough task without having to deviate from his idealism of not killing people again?
One of the Best Japanese Comic Based Movies!
It must be admitted that not all films adapted from Japanese comics (manga) can provide a good picture and visualization as obtained from the original book. However, the film "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" is different.
Although not all of the scenes are the same as those in the comics due to time constraints and perhaps various other considerations, this film can provide good nuances and characterization based on what has been present in the comic version. The film "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" still presents various antics and seriousness of the characters. Moreover, the artists involved in this film have good acting skills so that they can provide depictions of characters that match those in the comic version. Some of the details of each character's behavior are done beautifully by the artists, with the appearance and costumes that are not much different from the original ones in the comics. Even though it follows the embodiment of the characters in the original version, every character in “Rurouni Kenshin:
The duration that is owned by "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" is quite long, presenting a variety of dramas and action scenes which portions are not small at all. If you are looking forward to what the action scenes are like in this film, "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" offers so many scenes of scuffles and gun battles, among which are quite fierce and exciting to watch. Unfortunately, the film's length is too long, maybe it will make some viewers bored because the plot is too long. Even so, the story plot provided by this film is quite strong considering that this first film was "functioned" to explain the details of the story and the introduction of characters who will be directly connected to the next film.
As a person who has watched the anime version or read the comic version, the film "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" can be a good "refresher" as well as a film that can give a sense of nostalgia for the old series which was quite popular at that time. However, this may be less pronounced for those who have not known this series before or at least have seen the first film. Despite its shortcomings, the film "Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno" deserves to be watched as a Japanese film which can be said to be one of the best comic adaptations of the film!
