Cocaine is extracted from the leaves of the South American coca bushes, which have been chewed, brewed as tea, or smoked with tobacco for centuries, especially in Peru and Bolivia. The psychoactive ingredient was isolated for the first time in the mid-19th century. Coca leaves contain an average of 1% cocaine. Scene synonyms for cocaine are Coke, Koks, Schnee, snow, and white stuff.

In this country, the illegal drug is brought onto the market in a water-soluble form. Cocaine looks harmless: pure and white like snow, as it is called in the scene. But appearances are deceptive: Consumption can quickly lead to addiction, as you get used to it within a few weeks. In addition, consumers want to experience the state of intoxication as often as possible.
A study on the drug affinity of adolescents on behalf of the Federal Center for Health Education found in 2011 that 7.2% of children and adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 had already experienced illegal drugs. 0.2% of 12 to 17-year-olds and 0.9% of 18 to 25-year-olds had used cocaine at least once within the twelve months prior to the survey. The use of cocaine is, therefore, less important than cannabis for adolescents and young adults. In 2013, the number of first-time users recorded by the police fell by 3% compared to the previous year.

Intoxication effect
When cocaine is consumed, the re-absorption of the messenger substances in their stores is inhibited in the brain. This extends their effect. This stimulates the psyche more and narrows the blood vessels. Cocaine has a local anesthetic effect on the mucous membranes.

The onset of action and the duration of action depend on the one hand on the active ingredient content of the drug ingested, but also on the type of consumption. In addition, there are particular risks associated with the form of consumption.

- Suicidal thoughts
The suicide risk associated with the use of illicit drugs other than cannabis is ESPAD (European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs) increased by 2.4 times. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people in Europe. 189 adolescents and young adults committed suicide in 2010 in Germany.
